Visual Inspection
Visual Inspection (VI)
Visual Inspection (VI): Inspection of surface indications using measuring instruments and the naked eye.
Visual Inspection (VI) is the most basic, yet also the most widely used non-destructive inspection method. It simply involves an inspector using the naked eye or tools (such as a magnifying glass, mirror, camera, or endoscope) to directly inspect the surface of an object for imperfections or defects.
VI is often the first step in an inspection process and is also commonly used as quality control during and after production or welding.
Advantages:
VI can be performed on all types of materials as long as the surface is visible.
Simple and inexpensive method.
Limitations:
Only surface indications.
Limited by visibility.
