In Service Container

In Service Container

Containers that are in use are called in-service containers. For these containers, several inspections may be required depending on location and transport method.

We divide inspections into three categories:

  • CSC inspection in service
  • Offshore container inspection (NEN-EN-ISO 10855-3:2018)
  • Onshore container inspection

A container may need to meet multiple categories. For instance, an offshore container shipped internationally from Amsterdam to Barcelona and lifted onto a ship needs both CSC and offshore inspections.

So always consider the transport route and not just the final destination to avoid delays. If you have questions, feel free to reach out!

CSC-inspection in service

If your container was inspected at the time of manufacture, that inspection is valid for up to 5 years. Afterwards, regulations require:

  • First inspection within 5 years of manufacture
  • Re-inspections every 30 months
  • Inspections must verify safety and defect-free condition

Source: CSC legislation, provision 2d

We can perform this inspection at your location for full compliance.

Offshore Container Inspections

According to NEN-EN-ISO 10855-3:2018, inspections include:

  • Visual inspection
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
  • Lifting test

Visual Inspection

This involves checking the container inside and out, with no load. It includes:

  • Container markings
  • Primary structure welds
  • Welds near lifting eyes
  • Deformation, corrosion, or holes
  • Door function
  • The floor

Must be done every 12 months in a well-lit safe environment.

NDT Examination

Welds on lifting eyes and nearby structures must be tested using:

  • Magnetic testing
  • Eddy current testing
  • Penetrant testing

A visual inspection is always performed alongside NDT.

Load Test with Additional NDT

If modifications or repairs are made, the container must be retested. This can be done on-site or in our workshop.
